Interesting!
Is there a specific purpose for the finished vehicle? It's going to be capable of carrying a fair bit of weight!!

6x6 stretch 90 td5

Post  Portalrover on Sun May 16, 2010 12:12 pm

Always wanted to build one. It will be an every day truck. There are free wheel hubs fitted to the rear axle, and every gear cog will have Active 8 to run in. It is amazing stuff - expensive perhaps, but the results speak for them selves.
With the power we have from the td5 now, I don't recon it will use much more fuel than I do at present.
If some one comes along and wants to buy it, it will be for sale - I'll just build another ! cheers

Is the aciv8 the same kind of stuff as slick 50?

oil additive that leaves a high slip coating on all surfaces?

Active 8

Post  Portalrover on Sun May 16, 2010 11:46 pm

I have seen two ex hire cars drained of oil, re filled, and one had this stuff put in. They were sent round a track for 20 mins, drained of oil, and sent out again. One died within about a minute, the other ran out of fuel ! It IS expesive, but if you can stop 2 metal surfaces touching each other, it has to be good news.

Sounds pretty familiar to something called ProLong in South Africa. I had a VW Beetle, and was running ProLong - no oil in the sump for over a month and I didn't even realise it! Amazing stuff really.

Got to get myself some of it then. I used to swear by that stuff. My Landrover was held together by it! It forms a microscopic bond to the surface of the metal and provides probably the best lubrication you can get. I used to put it into my oil twice a year and never had any problems at all with lubrication issues. Should prove a blessing in this country with your cold starts in winter! Hell, might even get that Fronty of mine started!

Now thats impressive! Cool
How long did the build up take you?
So is that classed as a replacement chassis or is it going to be a Q Plate? scratch

6x6 stretch 90 td5

Post  Portalrover on Thu Jun 03, 2010 9:52 am

It will go where I could only go with diff lockers before, but I an sure there will be situations where 4x4 is better ! It is a chassis replacement for my 90, and the insurance company didn't want any more money cheers The build took about ten days from start to finish, but there are a few wee details to finish off - like the rear tub top rail, and the original rear door, but other than that, she's good. I also fitted a disco transfer box which has left the low box the same, but put the high box up 15%, so it's like having overdrive.
